Alcatraz Embarkation: transforming visitors’ Alcatraz experience from the very moment of arrival on the pier.
The National Park Service, in collaboration with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, developed a vision for a lasting embarkation site for the ferries to and from Alcatraz Island. The design team of EHDD (architecture), CMG (landscape architecture) and interpretive design firm Macchiato became on extension of the client group to co-create an exceptional welcoming design. The approach was based on extensive background research, visitor surveys, and interdisciplinary design iteration. Now in various phases of design and construction, the vision progresses toward realization.
