Aquatic Park & Pier Project
Aquatic Park & Piers Project: connecting a historic place of recreation to a vision for its future.
This beautiful site, part of the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park and neighbor to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, is underutilized and deteriorated. With the support of San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, a group of dedicated volunteers initiated a planning project to develop a vision for Aquatic Pier and its neighboring park and nonprofit partner’s campus. Led by Red Bridge President Cathie Barner and colleague Dan Hodapp, the plan was community driven, engaging individuals and neighborhood groups to co-create programs and designs for a reimagined park. The SWA Group was retained to produce the conceptual design and final report, while Cheryl Reiss led communications efforts. The City of San Francisco committed funding and staff to the initiative as did the two national parks and their park partners. Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture has joined the partnership in realizing a grand vision for the combined park district.
